Facebook and Instagram both use a technique called metadata to identify users. This makes sure that they know who someone is, or at least in some cases, when they are active on any particular social media site. Their services are based on the technology that was initially developed by Google but also used by Apple.

Google and Microsoft have created apps to help with discovering where your friends are as well.

In the early days of Google’s search engine, there were two types of algorithms. A set number of keywords they tried to match with keywords that users had typed into their web browser forms. Sometimes they matched users against those keywords. For example, if they wanted to find where Eminem lived, they would type “Eminem” into their google searches. Google found Eminem but not him because he wasn’t the name of his band.

The second algorithm was more advanced and focused on matching words to images (or objects). These included location, age, gender, height, weight, location, clothing size, and so on. Eventually, Google started using this for searching through its network. It could then send results based on what it learned about people, to whom it had matched.

Facebook uses metadata, similar to SEO but to do it in a different way. They collect information about people that it can learn about them and then show ads accordingly. It can then track whether you use Facebook or Instagram and what your likes are. The data is stored on their servers where they keep all the metadata about you.

Facebook has created an app called Find my phone which helps locate missing cell phones, or even finds them if someone has lost one. Although much of the time, when an individual goes missing, Facebook will have no idea that it has ever been out in all these locations. When you use the Find My iPhone app, you input your contacts, and you can see every location that Facebook has ever searched for you but didn’t include you in. You can then go back to look at the map or even the city level detail at all times.

Facebook also uses other techniques such as using AI, machine learning and neural networks to predict people’s whereabouts or identify you from photos and videos. There is also research to try and figure out how much time Facebook actually spends looking after you. In general, Facebook is very secretive about the things they do with our data and it doesn’t want anyone knowing too much about us, including advertisers.

Facebook also wants to sell advertising to businesses. One product being introduced was Ads Manager, which allows advertisers to tailor their campaigns to a person’s interests. Another new feature is Relevance. This tool will make suggestions for content your audience should be seeing based on their searches. Most of all, Instagram will soon show posts to reach followers that have liked a post on their story.

Facebook also uses artificial intelligence to analyse consumer behaviour. To do this Facebook feeds personal information into their system. Using this software, it can suggest products or suggestions for videos based on who has liked them in a video. What also goes on a list as their most liked or suggested videos. That will make recommendations for people to follow based on their likes in a whole lot of stuff.

Facebook needs to keep up with a user’s preferences and desires. It has a goal of giving everyone a place to express themselves. Just like Google, Facebook does this by making a public view for people to share whatever comes to their mind. I think they need to rethink the world wide web and become more accessible.

I am going to check out another platform in the future (one that I haven’t heard of yet) because it seems pretty good. Facebook will always be around.
